TVR Car Club

The best way of promoting yourself is to let others do it for you...

The following is an article released in the APRIL 2010 issue of SPRINT - The Monthly Magazine of the TVR Car Club:

Mooching Around

Steve [Darvill] is an old hand at TVR. You could say that he has been raised in the engine bay of a TVR. In 1989 Steve left school and started at the "Retail Home" of TVR, Harrogate Horseless Carriages, working out of the Skipton Road site. When the service department moved to Lime St (1990), Steve moved with them. When Tony Abrahms set up Hexham, Steve helped Richard Bright set up their service department. Once Richard was happy, Steve returned to Harrogate where he remained until October 2005, leaving to set up the workshop at SSCC.

SSCC needed to add a service department to the business as the later generation TVRs needed more specialised skills to maintain and service them. Jon Waggitt joined Steve, bringing along his motorsport engineering background to help the business offer a wealth of services and expertise.

When I popped in there were cars being worked on from the Tasmin 280 to a local Tamora. A V8S was stripped to the chassis an a T350 was having its wheels refurbed whilst serviced. Quite Impressive!

I asked Steve what services he offered TVR. Steve showed me a good supply of parts, stating he stocked all sorts from GAZ Shocks, batteries and tyres to smaller engine parts. If they weren't in he could get parts within 24 hours. Services included engine services, adaptable to the owner's and car's needs. If the car has only done a couple of thousand miles then intermediate services are available. All trim and paint requirements can be arranged.

I also asked Steve where the cars come from for his service. "Many of the local ROs, except you Rich, use my services. I've worked on Duncan, Paul and Steve's cars. The furthest travelled are one from Guernsey and one that has made the trip from Glasgow for the last 3 years".

After a mooch round and a welcome cuppa I left Steve to continue his work. Steve will be at many of the TVR Car Club events throughout the summer. Stop him and ask about his services he offers for your car. It seemed impressive to me and his track record has a fine pedigree. Perhaps worth a call?
